Unbleached cotton and naturally dyed silk
Unbleached cotton keeps its natural colour and texture which is incredibly soft, warm and inviting to wear. It’s also very kind to your skin and to the environment. Great for those of you with sensitive skin and those who just love soft stuff.
Naturally dying silk ensures that no nasty chemicals touch your wonderful wrap. Only natural dyes produced from flowers, roots, berries and bark. Again, great for your skin and the environment.
How do I care for my scarf or wrap?
Your scarf or wrap can be machine washed on cold. Hang to dry away from direct sunlight to (ensure the colour does not fade) and iron using a cool iron.
How do I care for my leather bag?
Your bag is very resilient and will age beautifully with the right care, however, it hates water. In order to prevent absorption of water, use an environmentally friendly repellent. Do not use a silicone based repellent as this will retard the leather's ability to breathe. If the bag does get wet, dry it in a well ventilated area, away from heat. Stains can be removed by professional cleaning.
How do I care for my silver jewellery?
Store each item in the box provided, wrapping them in soft material such as the acid free tissue paper it comes in. Avoid chemicals such as hairspray or perfume coming into contact with your jewellery. Wash with a very mild detergent, dry with a soft cloth and rub in smooth up and down lines, with a silver polishing cloth.
Packaging and gift wrapping
All of our items come wrapped in black tissue or in a black box finished off with a lovely bow.
You’ll also be glad to know, that we have made an effort to ensure that all of our packaging is either recycled (e.g. jewellery boxes) or comes from certified sustainable forest schemes (e.g. tissue).
Why produce in Ethiopia?
We want to raise the profile of beautiful, ancient, inspired Ethiopian artistry as it is too gorgeous too remain largely unseen. At the same time, we what to provide positive employment opportunities for Ethiopian artisans who, on the whole find it very difficult to earn a basic living.
Why Handmade?
Firstly, we think it is very cool to produce individually made, unique items using traditional methods in an era were there is an abundance of cheap, uniform things everywhere. Secondly, we are ensuring that the most abundant asset in Ethiopia, the creativity and skill of artisans, is put to good use. Also, we do our bit for the environment by producing beautiful items without the use of energy or machinery.
